Tripods For An iPhone – No Big Camera, No Problem

Hello Everyone

Let’s take a moment and ponder on what kind of a world we live in, surrounded by ever-evolving tech. Rewind a couple of decades and mobile phones were nothing more than communication devices. Mobile phones today do not fit into this definition. Nobody would have thought that such advanced and good quality cameras would be integrated within a mobile device and everyone with a mobile phone would be able to take professional like images. Well, it goes without saying that this concept has been popularized by Apple and its iPhone.

Today, the market is flooded with such high tech mobile devices and there are tens of makers continuously working on new products with better cameras, OS, screens, etc. Mobile photography is something which has gained a lot of traction these days and it is a no brainer that there must be hundreds of products related to it. So in this article, I would be focusing on Tripods for an iPhone and other smartphones.

The reason why the article is about iPhone and not smartphones in general, is because iPhone’s camera gives you a lot of flexibility. You can choose from hundreds of products available for an iPhone’s camera and use them. This is still something which android phones need to keep up with.

Smartphone Photography – Ins and Outs

Well, I’ll not be able to talk about everything related to smartphone photography, but I’ll try to make a post about it sometime soon. Nevertheless, let me give you some insights. Essentially smartphones these days have multiple cameras, Nokia has one with 7 cameras in one device. Insane, isn’t it! Smartphones are light, small, won’t cost you anything extra, and most importantly are easy to use. Just a few taps and you have that precious memory captured and preserved. There are millions of pictures on the internet today and most of them are snaps from a phone camera. Now there are some photographers too who stick to smartphones as their main tool and in contrast, there are some who abhor it.

iPhones unarguably have one of the best cameras in the market. Look at some of these pictures from my trip to Egypt, they have been taken by an iPhone.

Some Great Tripods for Iphone

Well, enough chitchat! Let’s get to the point. Well, iphones are incredibly flexible, thanks to the many makers who work on producing products only for iPhone. There are a lot of tripods in the market and I am gonna help you choose the best options available.

JOBY GRIPTIGHT PRO ( All in One Package): Again when it comes to mini tripods or flexible tripods, there is no brand that comes close to Joby. They have established such a big name in the field of what they do, that it is unwise to think of any other product if you have the money. Joby Griptight Pro is a smaller version of their gorillapods and the best part is it fits all phones and has tons of options to customize.

Manfrotto PIXI with Mobile Adapter ( The most beautiful of them all): Manfrotto Pixi is one beautifully constructed tripod. The Evo version has expandable legs and angles just like a bigger tripod. It has a built-in ball head and comes with a universal smartphone holder. It shouldn’t be a problem to hold larger iPhones like the 7 plus, etc. The tripod can easily hold weights up to 5.5lb (2.5kg).

UBeesize Tripod S (Best Budget Tripod): This is the best budget tripod for your iPhone. This small bendy tripod is a good option if you are on a budget and want something flexible. Legs and joints are made of metal and are very strong, perfect for taking group shots and photos. The universal phone holder supports all iPhones (X,8,7, and their plus versions). It comes with a three-year warranty and wireless remote control.

Joby GripTight Micropod (The Tiny iPhone Wielder): This is the tiniest of the tripods ever made. It can be easily fitted in your jacket pocket and is excellent when capturing low-level shots from your iPhone. Again the mount is compatible with all the iPhone models and it very durable. The rubberized feet can be adjusted for maximum stability.

UBeesize Tripod with Ring Light (For the Glamour Maniac): To be frank, I came along this while searching for products on Amazon. This tripod, in my opinion, is the best value for money. It has an 8″ LED Ring light with 3 temperature lighting. It is perfect for making YouTube videos or casual glamour shoots. The tripod can be extended to about 51″ and the central column can be used as a selfie stick! It has 11 lighting modes suitable for all situations and comes with a wireless remote.

Other iPhone Gear

iPhone as I already mentioned has tons and tons of accessories available in the market. From detachable lenses to video gimbal heads, you can have everything for iPhone photography.

  1. DJI Osmo Mobile 2 Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer: If you are into making YouTube videos or documenting yourself or anything like that with your iPhone, you should seriously consider getting your hands on one of these. These stabilizers are just like gimbal heads for tripods. They are exceptionally stable while recording videos and can render beautiful footage without the unwanted jerks.
  2. Lume Cube: This is an upgrade to your iPhone’s tiny flash. This is a high-quality piece of equipment in a small package. It packs 1500 lumens and is controlled via Bluetooth (Best for low light photography). It comes with colored filters and diffusers to give your images that professional look and since it is so small, you can easily carry many of these in your bags.
  3. Olloclip Lens Kit: This lens kit comprises of three lenses – Super wide angle, Fisheye, and a Macro lens. It gives you the power to change lenses just like a professional. The make is the best in class, although it is pricey the quality of the lens makes up for it.

Well, these are just some of the many accessories available, just browse through Amazon, you will be amazed by the options.

Conclusion

IPhone and other smartphones have changed the world of photography. DSLRs and mirrorless cameras can be very cumbersome to carry around, but with these devices and their accessories, you can easily let the explorer in you roam free. Gone are the days, when people used to carry big camera bags full of flashes, lightmeters, etc. The best part about these nifty devices is that they are very affordable and thus very popular.

I hope you found this article helpful and if you have any doubts or queries you can leave them below in the comments section and I’ll be more than happy to help you out.

  1. I just got a Joby GorillaPod for my Canon and I am loving it! I never considered buying a tripod for my phone. I have definitely been using my i-phone more frequently for on the go photography since it’s always on my person and there are so many easily accessible editing apps right in the palm of your hand! I might have to consider looking into getting a tripod for my phone if I keep heading in this direction! Thanks for the info! 🙂

  2. I have great respect for iPhones as my relatives are all using iPhones instead of other brands. But for me, I’m for Vivo, the official smartphone of the NBA games. So, here’s my question: Can these tripods for iPhones be used in a smartphone like Vivo? If yes, then I’m gonna buy one of these. I’m a blogger and I’m considering starting a photo blog in the near future.

  3. Hello Shashwat. Interesting post. Indeed, actual phones have turned many people into photographers. Which is improving every day. It’s time for heavy equipment to get photos. Now I am as you say a lot of accessories for the current phones at a small size. If you’re passionate, these tripods are great. I liked your photos from Egypt.

  4. Hey Shashwat

Nice choices you have shown here, particularly the gimbal stabilizer, a friend of mine bought one recently for his professional Canon camera and I can tell you this one is much more reasonably priced. The main thing that I have used a tripod for in the past is to take time-lapse videos.

I notice you mention that everything here is for iPhones but given that a lot of the holders are the universal clamp style will they work with other phones or is there more integration than that like with the remote controls etc.

  5. I can say for sure it is possible to take good quality pictures using Tripods. It has a relatively good advantage in usage. I love taking pictures. I think I can take good pictures with the use of it. It can be easily transported. It will be possible to carry it anywhere. It will be very helpful in taking pictures of my choice. I’ll buy it soon.

Thank you so much for your very nice post. 🙂

  6. Thanks for all that useful information. I’m an iPhone user and use my phone for all my photography, but haven’t yet got into using a tripod. I had no idea there was such a wide range available, so thanks for enlightening me on all this. I like that they’re not cumbersome and fairly cheap. I’ll definitely have to try one of these. Thanks for a great post.

  7. Really awesome pictures…especially the ones of you in Egypt. You’re right, the iPhone does have the best quality for taking pictures in my opinion. The handheld stabilizer is really helpful and awesome for recording videos. I’ve also used the Manfrotto Pixi which is my favorite. I like the expandable legs. Thanks for all the great info!

  8. You have quite a range of tripods here. I especially love the Jody brand seeing that you mentioned that it is the best. Technology is continuously upgrading non-stop. I believe there will be no end. The world is adapting more and more to new technologies , next thing you know, everything will be done by the touch of a screen or button.

This was a great read, thanks and all the best.
